Box, Inc. (NYSE: BOX) announced an integration with OpenAI that allows users to access and work with Box content directly within ChatGPT, according to a company press release.
The integration enables users to browse their Box folder structure, search and select files, and bring content into ChatGPT conversations and projects without switching between applications. Files remain stored and governed within Box, while Box's existing permissions controls determine what content users and AI can access.
Specific capabilities include the ability to tag Box files as context in ChatGPT chats, preview source files, edit Box Notes within ChatGPT, and use Box's MCP server to reference, extract, update, and create content.
"By bringing the files and context people already rely on in Box directly into ChatGPT, we're making it easier to move from finding information to understanding it, developing new ideas, and taking action - all in one flow," said Sondra Batbold, Product Lead, Personalization and Context at OpenAI.
Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box, said the integration is intended to make enterprise knowledge "a seamless and secure part of the AI experience."
The integration is available to all Box customers as of the announcement date. OpenAI is rolling out access to paid-tier ChatGPT users over the following days.
Box said the announcement builds on an existing partnership with OpenAI, under which Box customers can already use OpenAI models through Box AI to analyze and generate content.
