BIO-key International Inc. (NASDAQ: BKYI) announced a partnership with Portuguese technology integrator Visualforma to deploy identity and access management solutions across Portugal's municipal councils.
The partnership targets more than 250 government organizations in Portugal's public-sector ecosystem. Visualforma will lead the rollout of BIO-key's biometric authentication technologies across municipal administrations, educational institutions, and healthcare entities.
BIO-key has already implemented its solutions in selected municipal environments, including a major tourist city where the technology is operational and supporting citizen and visitor-facing digital services. The company's deployed solutions include PortalGuard for multi-factor authentication and single sign-on, PIN:You for PIN-based authentication, WEB-key biometric engine, and certified biometric scanners.
The implementation addresses security and scalability requirements in tourism-intensive environments while enabling secure access to municipal services and public facilities. The solutions integrate with Portugal's Cartão de Cidadão identification system and align with eIDAS-compliant electronic identification frameworks.
"This partnership with BIO-key represents a strategic step in Visualforma's commitment to support Portuguese municipalities in their digital transformation journey," said Humberto Bento, Operations Director at Visualforma.
Visualforma, with over 30 years of experience, specializes in digital transformation and IT infrastructure for Portugal's public sector. The company serves central government, municipal administrations, educational institutions, and healthcare organizations.
BIO-key provides biometric-centric identity and access management software securing access for over 40 million users. The company offers cloud-hosted or on-premise solutions for authentication and cybersecurity applications.
