Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) announced it will invest $600 billion in the United States over the next four years, an increase from its previous commitment. The company launched the American Manufacturing Program to expand its U.S. supply chain and manufacturing operations.
"Today, we're proud to increase our investments across the United States to $600 billion over four years and launch our new American Manufacturing Program," said CEO Tim Cook in a statement.
The program includes partnerships with 10 companies: Corning, Coherent, GlobalWafers America, Applied Materials, Texas Instruments, Samsung, GlobalFoundries, Amkor, and Broadcom. Apple plans to hire 20,000 people in the U.S. over four years, primarily in research and development, silicon engineering, software development, and artificial intelligence.
Apple currently supports more than 450,000 supplier and partner jobs across all 50 states. The company stated that approximately two-thirds of components manufactured in the U.S. are exported globally.
Key manufacturing developments include Corning expanding operations in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, to produce cover glass for all iPhone and Apple Watch devices sold worldwide. Coherent will continue producing VCSEL lasers for Face ID technology at its Sherman, Texas facility.
Apple's U.S. silicon supply chain is projected to produce more than 19 billion chips in 2025. TSMC's Arizona facility produces chips for Apple using advanced process technology, with Apple as its first and largest customer.
The company began construction on a 250,000-square-foot server manufacturing facility in Houston, which produced its first test unit in July and is scheduled for mass production in 2026. These servers will support Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud Compute services.
Apple is expanding data center capacity in Iowa, Nevada, Oregon, and North Carolina, with the Maiden, North Carolina facility supporting iCloud, App Store, and other services with 100 percent renewable energy.
