8x8, Inc. (NASDAQ: EGHT) has expanded SMS capabilities for Australian businesses using its 8x8 Work platform. The company announced that customers can now send and receive one-to-one SMS messages from Australian mobile numbers through the unified communications platform.

The SMS feature allows Australian businesses to manage both calls and text messages from a single phone number using either desktop or mobile applications. Users can handle inbound and outbound SMS communications alongside voice calls within the same interface.

According to the Australian Communications and Media Authority, 96% of Australian adults use mobile phones for texting. The SMS functionality supports Australian mobile numbers in the +61 format and is available across 8x8's X Series X1-X8 licenses without additional purchase requirements.

The service includes self-service setup through the Admin Console and compliance with Australian regulatory requirements including ACMA guidelines, the Spam Act 2003, and Australia's Interception Act. The feature is immediately available to all Australian customers with applicable mobile numbers, whether they are headquartered locally or operating branches in Australia.

"SMS continues to be one of the most trusted and widely used communication tools in Australia, and our customers want it integrated directly into their workflows," said David Land, senior manager of channel sales at 8x8.

Setup instructions are available through the 8x8 Support Portal, with additional documentation provided for usage, billing, and administrative configuration. The information is based on a company press release.
