Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) has launched a 411 directory look-up service. According to Tech Crunch, it works fairly well.
The phone companies including Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and AT&T (NYSE: T) don't need another online competitor to take away a nice profit center. VoIP is already killing their profitable landline service. A good 411 product could take away another nice piece of revenue.
Verizon is still at the early stages of selling its fiber to the home service in the hopes of getting TV customers away from cable. And, AT&T is even further behind.
Further and further.
