With its quarterly conference call on Thursday night, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) said that preorders for the Xbox One have already outpaced those seen with the Xbox 360 during its prelaunch months. The company said that most retailers have already sold-out of the device, which is slated to go on sale at the end of November 2013.
CNET also pointed out today that the Xbox 360 was the best-selling gaming console in the U.S. during June, selling 140,000 units according to NPD data. That would be the 30th-straight month that the Xbox 360 has achieved the mark.
Specific preorder sales numbers weren't given on the Microsoft call.
The Xbox One was largely criticized upon its debut last month, with Sony's (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation 4 stealing most of the thunder. Most didn't like the lack of game sharing ability or the fact that the Xbox One will need to be plugged into the Internet to play games.
Shares of Microsoft are down 8.6 percent following its FQ4 earnings miss on Thursday.
