MEDITECH Extends Integration of Evidence-based Content for Suicide Prevention

The Stanley-Brown Safety Plan and CAMS Framework® are among the new tools integrated into MEDITECH’s Depression and Suicide Prevention Toolkit

CANTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, MEDITECH announced new additions to its library of evidence-based content designed to support healthcare organizations in mitigating suicide risk. New content includes:

• ASQ guidelines for real-time risk screening.
• The Stanley-Brown Patient Safety Plan, for essential coping strategies and support.
• The CAMS Framework® — an evidence-based, patient-centered, suicide-focused intervention supported by 40 years of clinical trial research.

These tools, which will be integrated directly into MEDITECH’s Depression and Suicide Prevention Toolkit, enable clinicians to provide holistic, proactive treatment for at-risk patients across all care settings, including inpatient, ambulatory, and emergency departments.

MEDITECH collaborated with the non-profit organization SPiER to secure copyrights for this evidence-based content. SPiER advances suicide prevention by embedding trusted clinical tools directly into the EHR workflows clinicians use every day.

MEDITECH’s toolkit integrates validated, evidence-based clinical decision support for screening and intervention, such as the ASQ and Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) guidelines. Embedded surveillance tools then push notifications out to the clinical care team to monitor at-risk patients in inpatient and ED settings. The addition of the Stanley-Brown Safety Plan helps to ensure a safe transition to discharge.

The toolkit also includes call-back reminders and patient registries, ensuring at-risk patients receive timely outreach and follow-up appointments, including referrals for evidence-based treatment using the CAMS Framework®.

MEDITECH’s addition of this evidence-based content comes at a time when federal and state governments are placing increased focus on mental health, with approximately 38 states having prioritized behavioral health and substance abuse initiatives, including suicide prevention, through programs funded by the Rural Health Transformation Program. MEDITECH’s evidence-based content is also supported by the Joint Commission, the Suicide Prevention Resource Center’s (SPRC) Zero Suicide Toolkit, and the CMS Quality Payment Program.
