Income America Announces Matthew Wolniewicz as President
Retirement industry veteran to lead collaboration of firms, continue longtime advocacy for bringing innovative retirement solutions to advisors and investors
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Less than five months after leaving his post as president of Fi360, Matt Wolniewicz has been chosen to lead Income America as its president. This new role brings the seasoned veteran to the helm of the newly launched retirement income solutions provider, underscoring the firm's focus on the retirement plan channel and bringing innovative solutions to empower investors’ financial wellbeing.
Income America has come to market in relatively unprecedented fashion, backed by a consortium of firms including American Century Investments, Lincoln Financial Group, Nationwide, SS&C Technologies, Wilmington Trust, Wilshire Associates, and Prime Capital Investment Advisors (PCIA). Together, these firms recognized the need to pool resources to accelerate advancement within the retirement income arena. Wolniewicz will be tasked with executing on the shared vision of these partner firms, along with overseeing the strategic growth of Income America.
Jonathan Thomas, president and CEO of consortium member American Century Investments, says the team is fortunate to have Matt at the helm. “Matt possesses an impressive background in our industry, and at the same time, a forward looking perspective that will not only guide Income America to success, but help the consortium create solutions that modernize the future of retirement planning,” Thomas says.
Available in April, Income America 5ForLife will be structured as a multi-managed and multi-insured target-date fund that offers 3(38) and 3(21) fiduciary protection. The product also guarantees 5% per year, beginning at age 65, safeguarding against market uncertainty during retirement. “We believe our solution, Income America 5ForLife, fills a massive industry void by offering portable fiduciary products for investors as they search for sustainable retirement income,” explains Wolniewicz.
Throughout his 25-year career working with advisors and retirement plans, including serving as head of sales, global advisor and wealth solutions for Morningstar and later as president of Fi360, Wolniewicz has been guided by a foundational passion to deliver solutions that ultimately help investors retire with confidence. These former roles have also inspired Wolniewicz’s dedication to serving advisors in a fiduciary capacity.
“It is unique to see someone like Matt whose whole career has been committed to functioning as the fiduciaries’ fiduciary. In the world of fiduciaries, so many of us advisors have looked to Matt to help guide us around landmines that exist due to limited choice, unnecessary bias, and an ever-changing regulatory environment. Few leaders in the retirement community are as broadly trusted as Matt,” says Scott Colangelo, chairman at PCIA.
Wolniewicz’s professional beliefs have been shaped by corporate missions that sought to help financial intermediaries and institutions using prudent fiduciary practices to profitably gather, grow and protect investor assets. His appointment to president further entrenches his passion to guide advisors and advocate for resources that enable professionals to exceed client expectations.
“Between Income America 5ForLife’s mission to provide novel solutions and the unprecedented alignment of leading companies joining this effort, it’s a great honor to lead Income America,” explains Wolniewicz. “We are inspired to provide transformational, fiduciary-guided products that will truly benefit the community of financial professionals and their end clients.”
As part of Income America’s objective to provide thought leadership around lifetime income in retirement plans, the provider will launch their Lifetime Income Symposium on April 8. The hands-on, virtual gathering will offer an industry update on the legal and regulatory environment and how guaranteed income in plans solves a need for participants.
American Century Investments® provides underlying sub-asset class and target date glide path management as well as marketing support for Income America.
