Tango Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: TNGX) announced the appointment of Robert Azelby to its board of directors, according to a company press release.

Azelby brings more than 30 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, including roles in oncology commercialization and corporate strategy. He previously served as president and chief executive officer of Eliem Therapeutics from October 2020 to February 2023, and as CEO of Alder BioPharmaceuticals from June 2018 until its acquisition by H. Lundbeck in 2019. He also served as executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Juno Therapeutics until its acquisition by Celgene in 2018.

Earlier in his career, Azelby spent 15 years at Amgen Inc., concluding his tenure as vice president and general manager of oncology, where he oversaw a $6 billion oncology portfolio. He currently serves on the boards of ADC Therapeutics, Autolus Therapeutics, and Cardinal Health, Inc.

Malte Peters, chief executive officer of Tango Therapeutics, said the appointment is intended to strengthen the board as the company advances its lead investigational drug, vopimetostat, toward potential late-stage development. Vopimetostat is an oral, once-daily PRMT5 inhibitor being studied in cancers with MTAP deletion, a genetic alteration present in an estimated 10–15% of all human cancers, including approximately 40% of pancreatic cancer cases.

Azelby holds a B.A. in economics and religious studies from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
