SmartStop names chief investment officer Wayne Johnson to board

SmartStop Self Storage REIT Inc. (NYSE: SMA) appointed Wayne Johnson to its board of directors. Johnson currently serves as the company's chief investment officer, a position he has held since 2015.

Johnson previously served as president from 2019 until his board appointment. He joined the company in 2013 as senior vice president of acquisitions and has held leadership roles across multiple affiliated real estate platforms.

Before joining SmartStop, Johnson worked in commercial real estate development and leasing, managing office, warehouse, retail, and self-storage projects. He has developed, managed, and operated more than one million square feet of self-storage properties.

Johnson serves on the board of directors of the Self Storage Association's Large Operator Council and was a past president and board member of the Texas Self Storage Association. He earned a bachelor's degree in finance and real estate from Southern Methodist University and began his real estate career in 1979.

SmartStop operates as an internally managed real estate investment trust focused on self-storage facilities in the United States and Canada. The company owns or manages over 460 operating properties in 35 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada, comprising over 270,000 units and more than 35 million rentable square feet.
