Sabanto, an Iowa-based provider of autonomous tractor retrofit technology, has appointed John M. Raines to its board of directors, according to a press release from the company.
Raines brings more than three decades of executive experience in agriculture and technology. He most recently served as President of TELUS Digital Agriculture & Consumer Goods, where he led a division applying cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning across agriculture and consumer goods operations in 50 countries. He previously served as Chief Commercial Officer of The Climate Corporation, where he helped build and commercialize the Climate FieldView digital farming platform, and held senior leadership roles at Monsanto for more than a decade.
Raines currently serves on the board of FMC Corporation (NYSE: FMC), where he sits on the Audit and Nominating & Corporate Governance committees. He also serves on the board of Sydenstricker Nobbe Partners, a 42-location John Deere dealership group, where he chairs the Audit Committee, and as a director of TPNB Bank and Chairman of its holding company, Paris Bancshares. He holds a gubernatorial appointment to the University of Missouri Board of Curators.
The appointment follows Sabanto's close of a Series B funding round, described by the company as oversubscribed, led by Leaps by Bayer with participation from Sustainable Forward Capital, InnoVenture Iowa, Fulcrum Global Capital, DCVC Bio, and Yara. The company said the capital will support manufacturing expansion, engineering and commercial team growth, and continued development of its Vehicle Operating System and Vehicle Mission Control software.
"John has actually done that at a level very few people in this industry have. That's why I'm excited to welcome him to our Board," said Craig Rupp, Founder and CEO of Sabanto.
