CAIRDAC, a French medical technology company developing a leadless, self-powered cardiac pacemaker, announced the appointment of Raymond W. Cohen as chairman of its board of directors.

Cohen has more than four decades of medical technology industry experience. He co-founded and served as chief executive of Axonics, Inc. (Nasdaq: AXNX), a maker of implantable neuromodulation devices that held its initial public offering in 2018 and was acquired by Boston Scientific in late 2024 for $3.7 billion. In 2025, Cohen, as chairman of SoniVie, Ltd., led the sale of that company for $600 million, and later that year led the sale of Nalu Medical for $533 million.

Cohen currently serves on the boards of several public and private healthcare companies, including Kestra Medical Technologies (Nasdaq: KMTS), and holds roles as an operating partner at venture fund Star51 and as a venture partner with Andera Partners and Sherpa Capital Partners.

CAIRDAC is developing its Autonomous Leadless Pacing System, known as ALPS, which uses a piezoelectric harvester to convert the mechanical energy of heartbeats into electricity stored in an onboard rechargeable battery. The company is preparing for its first-in-human study following preclinical results and is targeting CE marking in Europe ahead of a U.S. pivotal study. The device is not yet approved or available for sale.

Current investors in CAIRDAC include Mérieux Equity Partners, Supernova Invest, Bpifrance, Sham Innovation Santé, and Crédit Agricole Touraine et Poitou.
