Maze Therapeutics adds two directors with clinical and pharma backgrounds

Maze Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAZE) has appointed Paula Johnson, M.D., M.P.H., and Sophie Kornowski, Pharm.D., M.B.A., to its board of directors, according to a company statement.
Dr. Johnson brings more than 30 years of clinical and research experience in cardiology. She has served as president of Wellesley College since 2016 and currently sits on the board of directors of Johnson & Johnson. She previously founded and led the Connors Center for Women's Health and Gender Biology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and held faculty positions at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Kornowski has more than 35 years of biopharmaceutical experience. She most recently served as chief executive officer of Boston Pharmaceuticals, a role she assumed in 2022, where she focused the company's pipeline on liver disease candidates before its acquisition by GlaxoSmithKline. Earlier in her career, she held senior roles at Roche, Genentech, Gurnet Point Capital, and Merck & Co., among others.
Maze chief executive officer Jason Coloma, Ph.D., cited anticipated pipeline milestones in connection with the appointments, including additional data from MZE829 in broad APOL1-mediated kidney disease patients expected in late 2026 or early 2027, and initial data from MZE782 in 2027.
Maze is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on small molecule precision medicines for kidney and metabolic diseases. Its lead program, MZE829, is a dual-mechanism APOL1 inhibitor in Phase 2 development. MZE782, a SLC6A19 inhibitor, is also in Phase 2 development for phenylketonuria and chronic kidney disease. The company is headquartered in South San Francisco.
