Matthews International names J. Michael Nauman as board chairman

Matthews International Corporation (NASDAQ: MATW) held its annual shareholder meeting, resulting in the re-election of four board members and the selection of a new board chairman, according to a company statement.

The company re-elected Thomas A. Gebhardt, Aleta W. Richards, David A. Schawk, and Francis S. Wlodarczyk to its board of directors. Shareholders also approved amendments to Matthews' articles of incorporation.

Following the meeting, the board selected J. Michael Nauman as chairman, replacing Alvaro Garcia-Tunon. Nauman joined Matthews' board in February 2025 and previously served as president, chief executive officer, and director of Brady Corporation. He has over 35 years of experience in commercial, strategic, and financial roles at companies including Molex Incorporated, Ohio Associate Enterprises, and Arthur Andersen and Co.

"Michael brings incredible technical expertise, M&A experience, and leadership abilities that will benefit the Company as we continue repositioning Matthews," said Joe Bartolacci, president and CEO of Matthews.

Nauman expressed appreciation for Garcia-Tunon's service, stating that Garcia-Tunon's "strategic insight and steady guidance have played a vital role in navigating the Company through numerous pivotal milestones" since joining the board in 2009.

Matthews International operates through Industrial Technologies and Memorialization segments and has over 4,300 employees in 15 countries. The company also maintains a significant investment in Propelis, a brand solutions business.
