Magnachip names Camillo Martino interim CEO as YJ Kim steps down

August 11, 2025 4:15 PM EDT

Magnachip Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: MX) announced YJ Kim has stepped down as CEO and board member, with Board Chairman Camillo Martino appointed as interim CEO effective immediately.

Kim served as CEO for 10 years during what Martino described as a turbulent period in the company's history. Martino stated the semiconductor company faces strategic, operational and financial challenges as it transitions to become a pure play power semiconductor company, requiring new leadership.

The interim CEO outlined cost reduction measures including cutting capital expenditures by more than 50% through 2027. Capital expenditures previously forecast at $65-70 million are now projected at $30-35 million, with net cash outlay expected between $12-13 million after accounting for bank equipment loan facility coverage.

Magnachip plans headcount reductions primarily through shared corporate functions, targeting $2-3 million in annual operating expense savings with a 1.5-year payback period. The company aims to achieve adjusted EBITDA breakeven as soon as possible.

Martino said he will spend most of his time in South Korea to accelerate the transition to a pure-play power company while focusing on sustainable profitability. The company will invest in its Gumi fabrication facility to support new-generation power products expected to increase market competitiveness and improve margins.

The board will review strategic alternatives including a potential sale of the company as part of capital allocation planning. Martino stated the board and management share shareholder frustration regarding company performance and are determined to optimize capital returns.

Kim thanked employees for their dedication and the board for its support during his decade of leadership.
