Lazard appoints Perplexity AI executive to board of directors

Lazard Inc. (NYSE: LAZ) announced the appointment of Dmitry Shevelenko, Chief Business Officer of Perplexity AI, to its Board of Directors, effective immediately.
Shevelenko oversees all operations at Perplexity, an artificial intelligence company. He previously held senior positions at Uber, LinkedIn, and Meta, and has founded startups focused on retail commerce. He holds multiple patents in social networking and transport technology and has deployed robotic technologies for clients including Walmart and Aramark.
"We are pleased to welcome Dmitry to our Board, where his leadership in artificial intelligence will help advance our tech-enabled vision for Lazard's future," said Peter R. Orszag, CEO and Chairman of Lazard.
The financial advisory and asset management firm stated that the appointment supports its strategy to combine AI-driven insights with its workforce capabilities. Lazard operates across North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, providing advisory services on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, restructuring, and asset management.
Shevelenko, a Columbia University graduate, said he was honored to join the board and help deliver on the company's vision for incorporating AI into financial services. Dan Schulman, Lead Independent Director of Lazard's Board, noted that Shevelenko's expertise strengthens the firm's strategic position and governance capabilities.
The appointment comes as financial services firms increasingly explore artificial intelligence applications in their operations and client services.
