Kura Sushi USA elects Claudia Schaefer to board of directors

Kura Sushi USA Inc. (NASDAQ: KRUS) announced that Claudia Schaefer has been elected as an independent member of its board of directors, effective January 21, 2026. Kim Ellis did not stand for re-election as a director on the same date.

Schaefer currently serves as Chief Marketing Officer at Smoothie King, where she oversees branding, marketing, store design, innovation, merchandising and digital experiences. Her previous roles include Chief Experience Officer at Caliber, Chief Marketing Officer positions at Jamba Juice and Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, and various marketing roles at Brinker International.

She also served on the board of directors for Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza from 2019 through its sale in 2021.

"Claudia's deep brand and marketing background makes her an excellent addition to the team," said Hajime Uba, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Kura Sushi.

Schaefer stated she is "excited to support Kura's brand and marketing strategy as they expand across the United States" and hopes to bring her experience as the company "nears the 100-unit mark and prepares to enter its next stage as a corporation."

Kura Sushi USA operates 84 locations across 22 states and Washington D.C. The company was established in 2008 as a subsidiary of Japan-based Kura Sushi Inc., which operates over 550 restaurants.
