The J.M. Smucker Co. (NYSE: SJM) announced the appointment of Bruce Chung and David Singer to its board of directors, effective April 15, 2026. The appointments follow engagement with Elliott Investment Management, one of the company's largest investors.
With the new additions, Smucker's board will comprise 11 directors, 10 of whom are independent. The company has also entered into an information-sharing agreement with Elliott Investment Management to facilitate collaboration.
Chung currently serves as executive vice president and chief financial officer of NRG Energy, where he oversees financial strategy, risk management and corporate development. He previously held senior positions at NRG and served as chief financial officer of Nuclear Innovation North America. Earlier in his career, he worked as a director in Citigroup's investment banking division.
Singer served as chief executive officer of Snyder's-Lance Inc. and previously was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Coca-Cola Consolidated Inc. He currently serves on the boards of Performance Food Group Company and Brunswick Corporation.
"The addition of Bruce and Dave—two proven executives with track records of creating value—underscores our commitment to continued board refreshment," said Mark Smucker, chief executive officer, president and chair of the board.
Marc Steinberg, partner at Elliott, said the board appointments represent steps toward ensuring the company reaches its potential. "Dave and Bruce bring to the board proven leadership in consumer brand-building and financial stewardship," Steinberg said.
The J.M. Smucker Co. operates brands including Folgers, Dunkin', Jif, Uncrustables, Smucker's, Hostess, Milk-Bone and Meow Mix across North America.
