Instacart names Etsy CEO Josh Silverman to board of directors

Instacart (NASDAQ: CART) announced that Josh Silverman, chief executive officer of Etsy Inc., has joined the company's board of directors.



Silverman brings experience leading marketplace and technology companies. He has served as Etsy's CEO since May 2017, after joining the board in November 2016. Previously, he held executive positions at American Express, Skype, Shopping.com, and eBay. Silverman co-founded digital greeting card platform Evite and served as its CEO from December 1998 until its sale in May 2001.



"Josh is a proven marketplace innovator with a track record of scaling consumer platforms such as Etsy, Evite, and Skype," said Chris Rogers, Instacart's chief executive officer. "His deep understanding of consumer technology, passion for empowering independent entrepreneurs, and commitment to sustainable growth make him an invaluable asset."



Silverman said he is "honored to join Instacart's Board of Directors at such a pivotal moment for the company." He added that Instacart "has already transformed how millions of people shop for groceries, proving the power of technology to make everyday needs easier."



Instacart's board now includes ten members, including Rogers and Fidji Simo, who serves as chairperson and is CEO of Applications at OpenAI. Other board members include Victoria Dolan, former CFO of Revlon; Ravi Gupta, partner at Sequoia Capital; Mary Beth Laughton, president and CEO of REI; and Meredith Kopit Levien, president and CEO of The New York Times Company.



The San Francisco-based company partners with more than 1,800 retail banners to facilitate online shopping, delivery and pickup services from nearly 100,000 stores across North America.
