Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. (NYSE: ETD) announced that John Dooner Jr., a longtime member of its board of directors, died at age 77.

Dooner served on the furniture retailer's board for 15 years. He began his career in advertising media in 1970 and later joined McCann Erickson as senior vice president in 1984, eventually becoming chairman and CEO of McCann Worldwide in 1995.

During his tenure at McCann, Dooner led the company's transformation into McCann Worldgroup and established what the company described as the industry's first global digital marketing network. He was involved in predicting the role digital media would play in marketing's future.

"John was a dear friend and a long-standing member of the Ethan Allen Board, whom I had known for more than 25 years," said Farooq Kathwari, Ethan Allen's chairman, president and CEO.

Dooner participated in philanthropic activities including Peace One Day, Product Red and the United Way. He served on boards for St. Thomas University, Sound Shore Medical Center and the New York City Police Foundation, and worked as a trustee of Notre Dame's Irish Advisory Council.

The information was provided in a company statement.
