Editas Medicine (Nasdaq: EDIT) appointed Patrick T. Ellinor, M.D., Ph.D., to its board of directors, effective August 6, 2026, according to a press release from the Cambridge, Mass.-based gene editing company.
Dr. Ellinor serves as Executive Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute at Mass General Brigham and as Director of the Cardiovascular Disease Initiative at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. He also holds a professorship at Harvard Medical School.
His research has focused on the genetics of cardiovascular disease, including genetic analyses of atrial fibrillation, with work spanning human genetics, genomics, computational biology, and artificial intelligence.
Editas board chair Jessica Hopfield, Ph.D., cited Dr. Ellinor's background as relevant to the company's advancement of EDIT-401, its candidate therapy targeting hyperlipidemia.
"I am pleased to join the Editas Medicine Board of Directors at an important time for the hyperlipidemia field and the broader gene editing community," Dr. Ellinor said in the statement.
The company also announced that Elliott Levy, M.D., will step down from the board, ending three years of service as an independent director.
