Devon Energy Corp. (NYSE: DVN) appointed Brent J. Smolik to its board of directors effective Oct. 1, the Oklahoma City-based oil and gas company announced.
Smolik, 64, brings more than 40 years of oil and gas industry experience to Devon's board. He previously served as president and chief operating officer of Noble Energy until retiring after its merger with Chevron Corp. in 2020. He also held the position of president, CEO and chairman of EP Energy Corporation.
Throughout his career, Smolik has held senior executive roles at Noble Midstream Partners LP, El Paso Corporation, ConocoPhillips, and Burlington Resources. His board experience includes service on Marathon Oil Corporation, Noble Midstream Partners LP, Cameron International, and Encino Acquisition Partners.
"Brent's extensive experience, combined with his operational and technical expertise in the oil and gas industry, will be valuable as we guide the company into the future," said John Bethancourt, Devon's board chairman.
Devon's board determined that Smolik qualifies as an independent director and appointed him to the audit and safety, operations, and resource committees. The appointment brings Devon's board to 11 members, with 10 considered independent.
Devon Energy operates as an oil and gas producer with operations across multiple U.S. basins, including holdings in the Delaware Basin. The company focuses on generating free cash flow and returning capital to shareholders through its business model.
