D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NASDAQ: QBTS) has appointed Bernard Gavgani to its Board of Directors and Cybersecurity Committee, the company announced in a press release.
Gavgani currently serves as Senior Advisor for Technology and Innovation to BNP Paribas Group Executive Management. He previously held the role of Group Chief Information Officer at BNP Paribas and also served as chief operating officer for information technology and operations within the bank's corporate and institutional banking division. Earlier roles at BNP Paribas included senior positions across capital markets, equity derivatives, technology, and operations.
Gavgani joins D-Wave's board in a personal capacity. His areas of experience include global technology strategy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence governance, and operational transformation.
"Having served as a CIO, I understand the practical requirements for bringing emerging technologies into the enterprise – from integrating with existing systems to delivering measurable business value," Gavgani said in the statement.
Sharon Holt, chair of the D-Wave board, cited Gavgani's background in cybersecurity and risk management within a regulated global enterprise as factors in the appointment. D-Wave CEO Dr. Alan Baratz said Gavgani's experience operating at global enterprise scale would be relevant as the company expands its customer offerings.
D-Wave describes itself as offering both annealing and gate-model quantum computing systems, software, and services.
