Mao holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Michigan State University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Simultaneously, Edmond Mesrobian stepped down from the board after nearly a decade of service, also effective October 28, 2026. The company stated that Mesrobian's departure was not the result of any disagreement with the company or the board on any matter relating to the company's operations, policies, or practices.

Board Chairman Rik van der Kooi attributed Mesrobian's contributions to the company's strategy since 2017, citing his technology expertise and experience in retail transformation.
