Capella University names oncologist Dr. Saro Sarkisian to board

Capella University has appointed Saro Sarkisian, MD, MHA, to its Board of Trustees, according to a statement from the Minneapolis-based online university.

Dr. Sarkisian is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist who currently serves as Clinical Director of Cellular Therapeutics at Frederick Health and practices at the James M. Stockman Cancer Institute in Frederick, Maryland. He has served as a lead oncologist in clinical settings and as a principal investigator on national and international clinical trials.

Dr. Sarkisian has advised on the development of immuno-oncology therapeutics, including antibody-drug conjugates and monoclonal antibodies, and has contributed to the expansion of oncology access in underserved regions. He has participated in conferences held by the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.

Capella University President Constance St. Germain said in the statement: "His perspective on healthcare administration and clinical leadership will be a valuable asset to the Board as we continue to prepare learners for careers in health sciences and beyond."

Dr. Sarkisian holds an MD from the University of Aleppo in Syria, completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and completed his hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He earned a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from Capella University and completed additional training in AI applications in healthcare at Harvard Medical School.

The Capella University Board of Trustees oversees institutional compliance of regulatory and constituent requirements. Capella University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and was founded in 1993.
