Burcon appoints Chris Bunio to board, two directors depart

Burcon NutraScience Corporation (TSX: BU) (OTCQB: BRCNF) announced the appointment of Chris Bunio to its board of directors. The Vancouver-based plant-based protein company also reported the departure of directors Jeanne McCaherty and Richard Nazur Jr.



Bunio serves as co-founder and CEO of TheoryMesh, a Winnipeg-based company focused on agriculture and food supply chain technology. He established TheoryMesh in 2021 to develop traceability solutions using blockchain and machine learning technologies.



Prior to founding TheoryMesh, Bunio worked at Microsoft for 18 years in strategy, sales and business development roles as a senior director. His responsibilities included covering public sector industries such as government, healthcare and higher education across international markets including Jordan, the United Kingdom, Turkey and the United States.



Bunio holds a degree in Physics from the University of Manitoba with a focus on theoretical physics and computational methods. He has been involved in Manitoba's technology ecosystem development and strategic planning initiatives since returning to Winnipeg.



McCaherty joined Burcon's board in July 2021, bringing food industry experience to the company. Nazur Jr. served on the board since September 2025, contributing expertise in commodity markets during his tenure.



Burcon develops plant-based protein ingredients including Peazzaz, FavaPro and Puratein products. The company focuses on commercializing its technologies through manufacturing partnerships and customer adoption.
