Bicara Therapeutics adds two directors, one departs

Bicara Therapeutics Inc. (Nasdaq: BCAX) has appointed Jeremy Bender, Ph.D., MBA and Christy Oliger to its board of directors, the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company announced in a press release.

Bender most recently served as chief executive officer, president and board member of Day One Biopharmaceuticals from September 2020 to April 2026, where he led the company through the approval and launch of OJEMDA for pediatric low-grade glioma and its approximately $2.5 billion acquisition by Servier. Prior to Day One, he held roles at Gilead Sciences, Tizona Therapeutics, Sutro Biopharma, and Allos Therapeutics. He also currently serves on the boards of Mereo BioPharma Group and Aura Biosciences.

Oliger served as senior vice president and business unit head for oncology at Genentech from 2017 to 2020, overseeing a portfolio of 15 products that contributed U.S. revenue exceeding $13 billion. She also held the role of senior vice president and business unit head for neurology, rare disease, and infectious disease at Genentech. She currently serves on the boards of Vera Therapeutics, Karyopharm Therapeutics, and Replimune Inc.

Separately, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has retired from Bicara's board. Mazumdar-Shaw was a founding board member of the company.

Mike Powell, Ph.D., chairman of the board, acknowledged Mazumdar-Shaw's contributions, saying she was "instrumental in shaping Bicara from its earliest days," including providing seed capital and strategic guidance.
