Avalyn Pharma adds ex-FDA official Robert Meyer to its board

Avalyn Pharma Inc. (Nasdaq: AVLN) announced the appointment of Robert J. Meyer, MD, to its board of directors, according to a company statement.

Dr. Meyer most recently served as Principal of Drug and Biologics Products at Greenleaf Health, now Eliquent Life Sciences, an FDA regulatory consulting firm. He previously served as Director of the Virginia Center for Translational and Regulatory Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.

Dr. Meyer spent more than 15 years at the FDA, where he held roles including Director of the Office of Drug Evaluation II within the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, overseeing review and regulation of pulmonary, allergy, metabolic, endocrine, analgesic, anesthetic, and rheumatologic drug products. He also served as Director of the Division of Pulmonary and Allergy Drug Products.

Following his FDA tenure, Dr. Meyer held senior positions at Merck Research Laboratories, including Vice President of Global Regulatory Strategy, Policy and Safety. He has previously served on the boards of Chimerix, Translate Bio, and Correvio.

Avalyn CEO Lyn Baranowski said Dr. Meyer's experience evaluating therapies at the FDA and advancing products through global development programs gives him perspective on regulatory, clinical, and strategic considerations relevant to the company's pipeline, which includes AP01, AP02, and combination therapy candidate AP03.

Avalyn is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on inhaled therapies for rare respiratory diseases, with programs currently in Phase 2b and Phase 2 clinical trials.
