Avalon Advanced Materials Inc. (TSX: AVL) (OTCQB: AVLNF) announced the appointment of PJ Juvekar to its board of directors, effective June 8, 2026.
Juvekar served as Global Head of Research for Chemicals, Agriculture, and Climate Tech at Citigroup for more than two decades. He currently works as a Senior Advisor with Boston Consulting Group and serves as a Senior Advisor to Nouryon, a specialty chemicals company owned by Carlyle.
The appointment comes as the Canadian critical minerals company advances its rare earth and lithium projects. Avalon is developing the Nechalacho rare earth elements project in the Northwest Territories and the Lake Superior Lithium project in Ontario.
"PJ brings an exceptional combination of capital markets credibility, industrial sector expertise, and strategic advisory experience that is rarely accessible to a company of Avalon's size," said Alan Ferry, Chair of the Board, according to the company's press release.
Juvekar holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology, a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine, and an MBA in Finance and Strategy from Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business.
The company operates in the critical minerals sector, focusing on rare earth elements and lithium development. The Nechalacho project contains light and heavy rare earth elements, while the Lake Superior facility is planned as Ontario's first midstream lithium hydroxide processing facility.
