Anixa Biosciences adds UPenn cancer researcher to advisory board

Anixa Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANIX) has appointed Carmen Guerra, M.D., to its Cancer Business Advisory Board, according to a company press release.

Dr. Guerra is a professor of medicine and biostatistics and epidemiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She also serves as Associate Director of Community Outreach and Engagement for the Abramson Cancer Center.

Her research focuses on increasing participation of underserved populations in cancer screening and clinical trials. She oversees the Penn Medicine Colorectal Cancer Screening Navigation Program and the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. She is also the site Principal Investigator of the NCI-funded SHIP Trial, research that contributed to FDA approval of the first at-home HPV test for cervical cancer screening.

Dr. Guerra is a member of the American Cancer Society Clinical Guidelines Development group and an author of several ACS clinical practice guidelines covering colorectal, cervical, lung, and prostate cancers. She served on the national board of directors of the American Cancer Society from 2016 to 2023.

Anixa Chairman and CEO Amit Kumar said the company looks forward to Dr. Guerra's guidance as it advances its breast cancer vaccine toward a Phase 2 clinical trial and continues its ongoing ovarian cancer CAR-T therapy Phase 1 trial.

Anixa is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing cancer treatments and vaccines in collaboration with institutions including Moffitt Cancer Center and Cleveland Clinic.
