Alkermes adds Anne Whitaker to its board of directors

Alkermes plc (NASDAQ: ALKS) has appointed Anne C. Whitaker as an independent member of its board of directors, the Dublin-based biopharmaceutical company announced.
Whitaker most recently served as chief executive officer of Aerami Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company. She previously held CEO roles at Novoclem Therapeutics and Synta Pharmaceuticals Corporation, and held senior positions at Bausch Health Companies, Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline.
She currently serves on the boards of publicly traded companies Basilea Pharmaceutica and ICON plc, as well as several private companies including QurAlis, Bespak and Beaconcure Technologies. She holds a B.S. in chemistry from the University of North Alabama.
Blair Jackson, president and CEO of Alkermes, said in the statement: "Anne's experience and perspectives will be valuable assets as we execute on our strategy and work to develop new medicines for patients and create long-term value for our shareholders."
Richard Pops, chairman of the Alkermes board, noted that Whitaker's experience as an executive and CEO "across organizations of varying sizes and stages, together with her extensive service on public and private company boards, gives her a unique perspective on the key decisions that drive long-term success in our industry."
Alkermes markets products for the treatment of alcohol dependence, opioid dependence, schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder and narcolepsy. The company also has late-stage pipeline candidates for narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia, and early-stage programs targeting other neurological conditions.
