AMG appoints G. Staley Cates to board, Karen Alvingham to retire

AMG (NYSE: AMG) announced the appointment of G. Staley Cates to its Board of Directors, effective April 1, 2026. The company also announced that Karen L. Alvingham will retire from the board on the same date after serving since January 2018.



Cates served as Vice Chairman of Southeastern Asset Management from 2015 through 2024, after holding the position of President from 1989 through 2015. He joined the independent global investment management firm in 1986. Cates holds a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.



The appointee has been involved in various educational and community organizations. He co-founded New Hope Christian Academy and served as a founding board member of the Soulsville Foundation. Cates was the founding chairman of both the Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Foundation and the Board of Crosstown Concourse. He currently chairs the Poplar Foundation, which supports educational initiatives in Memphis.



"Staley is a distinguished investor and business leader whose four decades at Southeastern were defined by a deep commitment to long-term value creation, disciplined capital allocation, and shareholder alignment," said Loren M. Starr, Chair of AMG's Board of Directors.



Alvingham expressed appreciation for her tenure on the board. "It has been an honor to serve on AMG's Board over the past eight years," she said. "I have great respect for the firm's commitment to its shareholders, Affiliates, and clients."



AMG also announced the re-appointment of Jay C. Horgen as President, effective April 1, 2026. Horgen will continue serving as Chief Executive Officer. As of December 31, 2025, AMG's aggregate assets under management were approximately $813 billion, according to the company statement.
