Absci Corporation (NASDAQ: ABSI) announced the addition of two dermatology specialists to its ABS-201 Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Rodney Sinclair and Dr. David Goldberg will guide the clinical development of the company's therapeutic antibody for androgenetic alopecia treatment.
ABS-201 targets prolactin receptors to stimulate hair follicle regeneration. In preclinical mouse studies, the antibody demonstrated superior hair regrowth compared to minoxidil, according to the company's statement. Phase 1/2a clinical trials are planned to begin in early 2026, with initial data expected in the second half of 2026.
Dr. Sinclair serves as Professor of Dermatology at the University of Melbourne and Director of Sinclair Dermatology. He has authored over 1,000 publications focused on hair loss research over three decades. Dr. Goldberg is Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, with nearly four decades of clinical experience and involvement in original minoxidil trials.
Androgenetic alopecia affects approximately 80 million Americans, causing crown balding and receding hairlines in men and progressive hair thinning in women. Current FDA-approved treatments include minoxidil and finasteride.
"ABS-201 has a novel mechanism of action and a promising preclinical profile with the potential for a durable therapy to address a condition where all currently available treatments require continuous usage," Dr. Sinclair stated.
The expanded advisory board includes other dermatology and hair restoration experts, including Drs. Anthony Rossi, Maria Hordinsky, and Ken Washenik. Absci develops therapeutics using generative AI and maintains operations in Vancouver, Washington, New York City, and Switzerland.
