Xtract One expands California hospital security deployments

Xtract One Technologies (TSX: XTRA, OTCQX: XTRAF, FRA: 0PL) announced new deployments of its SmartGateway weapon detection system at two California hospitals, with installations underway at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister and Contra Costa Health in Martinez, expected to be completed by mid-August.

The deployments come ahead of California Assembly Bill 2975, which requires hospitals to implement enhanced security measures at high-traffic public entrances by March 2027. The company previously reported a deployment at San Mateo Medical Center.

At Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital, three SmartGateway units are being installed at the emergency department entrance, the main entrance, and the labor and delivery wing. The hospital stated the installations are being made to meet the state mandate rather than in response to any specific increase in weapons-related incidents.

Contra Costa Health is deploying three SmartGateway systems across its main entrance, emergency department, and psychiatric entrance. The health system is also implementing a bag check protocol alongside the screening technology at its main entrance.

Peter Evans, CEO of Xtract One, said in the press release that "California health systems are making real procurement decisions right now, and the facilities selecting Xtract One are doing so because the technology fits the environment."

Xtract One's SmartGateway system is designed to identify concealed firearms and bladed weapons while allowing individuals to walk through without removing personal items, differing from traditional metal detectors that alert on any metal object.
