Investing.com -- Walmart has elevated 3,000 pharmacy technician roles to operations team lead positions, increasing their average hourly wages to $28 from $22 as part of its expansion of digital and pharmacy healthcare services.

The retailer announced Wednesday that pharmacy technicians, who currently earn an average of $22 an hour, will now be eligible for wages up to $40.50 an hour.

This staffing expansion aims to strengthen local pharmacy teams across Walmart's 4,600 locations as the company enhances its digital offerings, including Better Care Services, access to Eli Lilly's LillyDirect program, and expanded pharmacy delivery.

According to Walmart, the newly created team lead positions will help oversee daily pharmacy operations and support pharmacy managers and pharmacists. These team leads have the potential to earn up to $42 an hour, excluding bonuses, depending on location.

The wage increase comes after Walmart raised its annual forecasts for the second time in November following a strong quarter driven by surging online sales. The retailer has been attracting wealthier shoppers with the convenience of faster deliveries
