WP Engine, a WordPress web hosting and services company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Commerce (NASDAQ: CMRC), the parent company of eCommerce platform BigCommerce, to launch a product called WP Engine Commerce Connect for BigCommerce.

The integration is aimed at mid-market brands seeking to expand their eCommerce capabilities without rebuilding their existing WordPress sites. According to a press release, the product allows businesses to add BigCommerce's commerce functions while retaining existing WordPress themes, URL structures, content, and search engine optimization configurations.

WP Engine states the solution allows sites to remain operational during upgrades and enables content migration without interrupting existing operations. Agencies implementing the product can do so without full site rebuilds, according to the company.

"Growing eCommerce brands shouldn't have to choose between the WordPress experience they've invested in and the commerce capabilities they need to scale," said Heather Brunner, chairwoman and CEO of WP Engine. "Our partnership with BigCommerce gives brands the flexibility to scale confidently, adapt as their business evolves, and build for what's next."

Travis Hess, CEO of Commerce, said the partnership provides "an open, flexible foundation that brings content and commerce together to help them create richer customer experiences, improve discoverability, and adapt faster as the way people shop continues to evolve."

WP Engine states it powers more than 5 million WordPress sites globally. Commerce, listed on the Nasdaq as CMRC, also owns Feedonomics and Makeswift alongside BigCommerce.
