WISeKey International Holding Ltd. (NASDAQ: WKEY) and its subsidiary SEALSQ Corp (NASDAQ: LAES) issued a statement welcoming a White House Executive Order titled "Securing the Nation Against Advanced Cryptographic Attacks," which directs federal agencies to accelerate the transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQC).
The executive order addresses concerns around quantum computing's potential to break widely used public-key cryptographic systems, an event referred to in the industry as "Q-Day." The order frames the next three years as a critical window for governments and enterprises to migrate to quantum-resistant security frameworks.
"The next three years are critical. Organizations must act now to prepare for Q-Day, because the migration to post-quantum security cannot happen overnight. Data stolen today can be stored and decrypted tomorrow when sufficiently powerful quantum computers become available," said Carlos Moreira, chairman and CEO of WISeKey.
The companies cited the "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" threat, in which adversaries collect encrypted data today with the intention of decrypting it once quantum computing capabilities advance. According to the press release, sensitive government, financial, healthcare, and infrastructure data may be at risk if quantum-resistant protections are not deployed in time.
SEALSQ stated it is developing quantum-resistant microcontrollers, trusted platform modules, and secure elements incorporating NIST-standardized post-quantum cryptographic algorithms. WISeKey said its public key infrastructure and digital identity platforms are designed to support migration from classical to post-quantum cryptographic systems.
The two companies said they have invested in quantum-resistant technologies for more than a decade, targeting applications in IoT devices, satellite communications, industrial systems, and critical infrastructure.
Moreira added: "Preparing for Q-Day is not simply a technology upgrade — it is a societal challenge that requires coordination across governments, industry, academia, and critical infrastructure sectors."
