Trump may reach Fed chair decision next week, says Bessent
Investing.com -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump may decide on the next Federal Reserve chairman as early as next week.
"We are now down to four candidates," Bessent told CNBC, adding that Trump has already spoken with all of them.
During the interview, Bessent also commented that it was a "mistake for Powell to attend Supreme Court hearing," referring to the current Fed chair.
The Treasury Secretary emphasized that "Fed’s monetary independence is very important," signaling the administration’s stance on central bank autonomy.
Bessent also expressed optimism about the U.S. economy, stating that the country is "in nascent stages of a productivity boom."
