TreeFrog Therapeutics, a French biotech company focused on regenerative medicine, announced the appointment of Mark Rothera as Chief Executive Officer and Board member. Rothera succeeds Frédéric Desdouits, who is stepping down after five years leading the company.

The leadership transition moves co-founders Kévin Alessandri and Maxime Feyeux from daily operations to focus on their Board roles. Rothera brings over 30 years of biopharma experience, having previously served as CEO at three biotech companies including Viracta, Silence Therapeutics and Orchard Therapeutics.

Board Chair Elsy Boglioli stated that Rothera's experience in gene therapy and biologics will support the company's advancement of Parkinson's and liver programs. The company also maintains a strategic partnership with Vertex for Type 1 Diabetes pipeline development.

Rothera has focused his career on specialty diseases and novel modalities including gene therapy and RNAi therapies. He previously held commercial leadership roles at PTC Therapeutics, Aegerion, Shire, and GSK. He holds degrees from Cambridge University and INSEAD.

TreeFrog develops cell therapy technology using its proprietary C-Stem platform. The company operates programs in both therapeutic development and partnerships with biotech companies. Since 2021, TreeFrog has raised $82 million to advance its pipeline of stem cell-based therapies in regenerative medicine.

The company maintains operations in France and the United States, according to the press release statement.
