Smiths Detection appoints former TSA head Pistole to US board

Smiths Detection Inc. announced the appointment of John S. Pistole to the Board of Directors for Smiths Detection US, LLC. Pistole previously served as Administrator of the Transportation Security Administration and Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.



Pistole will serve as an Outside Director, providing strategic guidance on global security risk, screening innovation, regulatory engagement, and transportation infrastructure protection, according to the company's statement.



"John's distinguished career in public service and his deep understanding of security policy and technology make him an invaluable addition to our board," said Duane Andrews, Chair of the Board.



Pistole joined the FBI in 1983 and held several leadership roles before his appointment as Deputy Director in 2004. In 2010, the U.S. Senate confirmed him as TSA Administrator, where he led approximately 60,000 employees and oversaw security operations at more than 450 U.S. airports. From 2015 until recently, he served as President of Anderson University.



He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Anderson University and a Juris Doctor degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.



Smiths Detection develops threat detection and security screening technologies for aviation, ports, borders, urban security, and defense markets. The company is part of Smiths Group plc, headquartered in London.
