Ramaco Resources plans national critical minerals stockpile at Wyoming mine
Ramaco Resources Inc. (NASDAQ: METC, METCB) announced its board approved an initiative to establish a national strategic stockpile of rare earth elements and critical minerals at its Brook Mine facility in Wyoming.
The Strategic Critical Minerals Terminal will be developed with a commodity structuring and financial advisor. The company stated the stockpile is designed to address private and public needs for secure access to rare earth elements and critical minerals.
The facility will provide storage and inventory management solutions for critical minerals and rare earths. Ramaco expects to process its own materials and offer tolling services for third-party producers. The stockpile will be managed as a terminal to ensure materials remain available for consumers at market prices.
The Brook Mine spans over 15,800 acres, with 4,500 acres currently permitted. The company intends to apply for permits to expand mining on the remaining acreage. Recent land acquisitions have expanded the company's Wyoming holdings for future development and mineral storage.
According to the company, the Brook Mine contains scandium, gallium, and germanium as primary sources. The mine also contains heavy rare earth elements including dysprosium and terbium, and light rare earth elements such as neodymium and praseodymium.
Ramaco's board authorized increasing annual commercial rare earth and critical mineral oxide production projections to approximately 3,400 tons from the previously contemplated 1,240 tons. This represents a 174% increase based on the company's goal of increasing coal production from 2 million to 5 million tons annually.
The latest Technical Report Summary from Weir confirmed an estimated 1.4 million tons of Total Rare Earth Oxide on the permitted acreage, including gallium, scandium and germanium. The company expects this figure may expand as additional property testing occurs.
