RWE and Google sign 15-year solar power deal in Oklahoma
RWE and Google have signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the full output of RWE's 155-megawatt Crooked Creek Solar project in McCurtain County, Oklahoma, according to a press release from the companies.
RWE plans to begin construction on the project later in 2026, with commercial operation expected in 2028. Once operational, the electricity generated will support Google's operations in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market.
During construction, the project is expected to employ up to 250 workers at peak and generate an estimated $24.3 million in local economic activity, along with $1.4 million in state and local tax revenue for McCurtain County. Over its operating lifetime, the project is estimated to deliver $25 million to county programs, local emergency medical services, the Broken Bow School District, and regional technology education centers.
Will Conkling, Director of Energy and Power at Google, said: "Our agreement with RWE adds critical new generation to the local system, boosting the amount of affordable and reliable power supply for Oklahoma and the region."
Ingmar Ritzenhofen, Chief Commercial Officer of RWE Americas, said the agreement "reflects the growing demand for affordable, reliable, domestically produced energy."
RWE also owns and operates the 148 MW Boiling Springs wind project in Woodward County, Oklahoma, and has six additional power projects totaling 1.6 gigawatts in development across the state.
