ProAmpac has acquired the bag converting operations of International Paper Company (NYSE: IP), according to a company statement. The transaction expands ProAmpac's converting capabilities and supports its strategy to increase fiber-based packaging solutions.
The acquired operations are located in California, Oregon, and Texas and specialize in kraft paper bag manufacturing for grocery, convenience store, and quick-service restaurant markets. Products include handled shopping bags, self-opening sacks, and smaller format options.
"Global demand for reliable, recyclable paper packaging continues to grow rapidly amid evolving consumer expectations and market trends redefining recyclability," stated Greg Tucker, ProAmpac founder, vice chairman, and chief executive officer.
Allison Magness, International Paper's group vice president of specialty business, said the bag business "is strong, being built on sustainability and reliability, with a winning team."
The acquisition provides ProAmpac with additional manufacturing sites across the United States, expanding production capacity and operational redundancy. ProAmpac, based in Cincinnati, is owned by Pritzker Private Capital along with management and co-investors.
International Paper reported net sales of $18.6 billion for 2024 and employs more than 65,000 people globally with operations in more than 30 countries. The company recently completed its acquisition of DS Smith in 2025.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
