Poznan University of Technology installs IQM quantum computer for research
Poznan University of Technology has installed its first on-premises quantum computer, the IQM Radiance R1 system, to advance quantum education and research. The installation represents IQM Quantum Computers' second operational quantum computer deployment in Poland.
The university selected IQM's on-premises approach to provide researchers, students, and engineers with direct access to quantum computing hardware on campus, rather than relying solely on cloud-based access. This deployment aligns with Poland's quantum technology development roadmap and broader European initiatives in the field.
"This is proof of our production quantum approach, where institutions such as PoznaĆ University of Technology own their quantum computers, build internal expertise, and develop their own intellectual property," said Jan Goetz, CEO and Co-founder of IQM Quantum Computers.
Beginning in October 2026, the university will launch a new engineering program called "Quantum Technologies" and plans to offer a master's degree program focused on quantum computing. The quantum computer will also support the emerging Polish Quantum Olympiad for secondary school students and various educational events.
"The launch of a quantum computer at Poznan University of Technology is not only a milestone in the advancement of research, but above all the beginning of a new era in the education of our students," said Prof. Teofil Jesionowski, Rector of Poznan University of Technology.
IQM has sold 23 systems to customers worldwide and has agreed to a business combination with Real Asset Acquisition Corp. (NASDAQ: RAAQ). The company recently filed an F-4 registration statement with the SEC to list on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange in the U.S., with plans to also list on Nasdaq Helsinki after closing.
