Powerfleet launches AI risk intervention module for driver safety

July 10, 2025 4:16 PM EDT

Powerfleet Inc. (NASDAQ: AIOT) announced the launch of its automated AI risk intervention application, designed to detect and prevent driver safety risks in real time through video analysis and artificial intelligence processing.

The Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey-based company said the module integrates with its Unity ecosystem and uses AI processing on both edge devices and cloud infrastructure to identify risky driving patterns including fatigue, distraction, and aggressive driving behaviors.

"Companies are overwhelmed by video data but starved for actionable insight," said Steve Towe, CEO at Powerfleet. "Our automated AI risk intervention module delivers the breakthrough the market has been asking for: automated real-time risk assessment targeted at preventing incidents before they happen, not just after the fact."

The system provides continuous driver risk scoring, automated alert escalation to fleet managers and drivers, and live video with two-way communication capabilities. According to the company, the technology can reduce manual video review by up to 80% and decrease fatigue and distraction alerts by 95%.

The module operates through smart escalation alerts that notify drivers, fleet managers, and senior stakeholders when risky behavior is detected. The system aims to enable immediate intervention and coaching within minutes of incident detection.

Powerfleet reported that early deployments have shown reductions in collision rates, distracted driving incidents, and vehicle off-road time. The company also cited lower insurance costs and faster claims resolution as additional benefits.

The AI-powered application represents an expansion of Powerfleet's software-as-a-service portfolio beyond traditional telematics systems that focus on post-incident review. The company serves 48,000 customers across 120 countries with AI-powered data solutions for mobile asset performance and safety optimization.
