Ping An names Ray Wang as chief technology officer
Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd. (HKEX: 2318; SSE: 601318) appointed Ray Wang as chief technology officer and general manager of Ping An Technology, according to a company statement.
Wang holds a master's degree in computer science from the National University of Singapore and brings nearly 20 years of experience in finance and technology. He previously served as chief architect at Baidu starting in 2015, where he led development of Baidu Wallet and financial services. In 2016, he joined Ant Group as vice president and CTO of Ant Fortune and Ant Insurance, overseeing technical teams across wealth management, insurance, consumer finance, MYbank, and Zhima Credit.
At Ant Group, Wang launched AI products including an AI financial assistant and AI financial business assistant. Before joining the Chinese financial technology sector, he held senior technical management positions at Google and Bloomberg.
Ping An operates with a technology team of over 21,000 developers and more than 3,000 scientists as of the end of 2024. The company has filed 55,435 patent applications as of March 31, 2025, and won 45 championships in domestic and international AI competitions.
The appointment supports Ping An's strategy to integrate artificial intelligence capabilities across five digital systems covering business operations, management, marketing, and services. The company has built what it describes as a "953" technology foundation using nine databases, five laboratories, and three technology companies.
Ping An had more than RMB12 trillion in total assets as of December 2024 and serves nearly 240 million retail customers. The company ranked 27th in the Forbes Global 2000 list and 47th in the Fortune Global 500 list in 2025.
