PacBio (NASDAQ: PACB) announced the appointment of Christopher Gibson to its board of directors. Gibson co-founded and serves as chairman of Recursion (NASDAQ: RXRX), a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on AI-driven drug discovery.
Gibson led Recursion from inception through capital formation, strategic partnerships and a public listing. The company developed a platform that generates and analyzes biological datasets spanning drug discovery, clinical data and electronic health records to train machine learning models for drug development.
"Dr. Gibson has demonstrated how AI, automation, and high-dimensional biological data can be combined to transform scientific discovery," said Christian Henry, PacBio's chief executive officer. "As HiFi sequencing datasets grow in scale, the ability to leverage the full power of the HiFi genome through advanced analytics is becoming increasingly strategic."
At Recursion, Gibson oversaw development of a data platform designed to map biological relationships and accelerate clinical development. The company built capabilities spanning computational biology, software engineering, automation and scalable infrastructure.
Gibson said he believes PacBio's long-read sequencing generates biological datasets that can support algorithmic approaches in healthcare applications. "The convergence of advanced sequencing technologies and AI-driven analytics represents a major opportunity to accelerate discovery, development, and diagnostics by unlocking new biological insight," he stated.
PacBio develops sequencing solutions for research applications including human genome sequencing, plant and animal sciences, infectious disease, microbiology and oncology. The company's products include HiFi long-read sequencing technology.
