Origin Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ: ORGN) announced the retail launch of its PET caps through a partnership with Power Hydration, an alkaline beverage brand, in select California stores.
The company said this marks the first commercially scalable PET cap on a PET bottle available in retail stores. The product features Origin's 1881 closure technology and creates what the company describes as a fully recyclable mono-material PET packaging solution.
"We're excited to announce our first PET caps on store shelves today," said Origin CEO John Bissell. "A commercially scalable PET cap on a PET bottle is an industry first, representing a significant step forward in the adoption of Origin's cap platform."
Power Hydration Co-Founder George Kotzeff said the partnership enables the launch of beverages with recyclable PET caps in retail stores. The alkaline water brand launched with bottles featuring complete recyclability including the cap component.
Origin Materials focuses on sustainable materials technology, including PET caps and closures for what it identifies as a $65 billion market. The company operates a biomass conversion platform that transforms carbon into materials for various end products.
The pilot launch represents Origin's entry into retail distribution for its cap technology. According to the company's press release, its customer pipeline includes both large and small beverage brands.
