Orbia opens new irrigation manufacturing plant in Mexico
Orbia Advance Corporation (BMV: ORBIA) announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, through its Precision Agriculture business group Netafim. The 30,000-square-meter plant represents the company's third production site in Mexico and 21st facility globally.
The facility will primarily produce thin-wall drip irrigation solutions, with plans to add heavy-wall dripline production in the future. The plant is designed to serve growing demand for precision irrigation across North and Central America, according to the company's statement.
The new facility joins Orbia Netafim's existing North American operations, which include manufacturing plants in Reynosa, Mexico, and Fresno, California, plus two recycling facilities in California and Culiacán, Mexico. The company states this creates a network of five regional sites.
"We are seeing strong and sustained demand for precision irrigation solutions across the Americas as farmers navigate water constraints, rising costs and the need to improve productivity," said Sameer Bharadwaj, Chief Executive Officer of Orbia.
Hermosillo's location in Sonora provides proximity to major farming areas and logistics infrastructure, including rail access adjacent to the plant. Sonora serves as a hub for commodity crops and fresh produce production, though the region faces water stress challenges.
The facility is expected to create approximately 200 direct jobs and support additional indirect employment in the region. Orbia Netafim operates as part of Orbia Advance Corporation, which reported $7.6 billion in revenue in 2025 and has over 22,000 employees globally with operations in more than 50 countries.
