"I am very pleased to join Oligomerix as its Chairman at this critical stage of its development in Phase 1 clinical human testing," Caple said in the company's announcement.

The Bronx-based company is developing small molecule therapeutics targeting tau protein for Alzheimer's disease and rare neurodegenerative conditions including progressive supranuclear palsy and frontotemporal dementia. Its lead compound, OLX-07010, is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials as an oral, once-daily medication designed to prevent tau protein accumulation.

Oligomerix operates from the Ullmann Research Center for Health Sciences within the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The company stated it is seeking strategic partners to advance its clinical programs, according to the press release.
